Smarter Monitoring for Safer Open-Water Swimming

Pioneered by the founder of KAPSULE SWIM, the Smart Buoy concept combines a high-visibility swim buoy with LoRaWAN location-tracking technology—transforming a traditional safety buoy into part of a proactive swimmer-monitoring system.

A compact GPS tracker is placed securely inside the buoy. While swimmers move through the water, their location data is transmitted through a LoRaWAN gateway installed on shore. Coaches, lifeguards and safety personnel can then monitor multiple swimmers from a compatible tracking platform.

From Rescue to Prevention

Traditional water safety often depends on spotting an emergency after it has already occurred. The KAPSULE concept is designed to support earlier awareness.

By observing each swimmer’s location and movement from shore, safety personnel may identify unusual situations such as:

  • A swimmer moving away from the planned route
  • Someone remaining stationary for an unusual period
  • A swimmer becoming separated from the group
  • Unexpected movement toward a potentially dangerous area

This additional information can help safety teams investigate sooner—before a developing situation becomes a serious emergency.

Simple Integration, Flexible Deployment

The system is designed for swimming clubs, open-water training groups, schools, event organisers and supervised swimming locations.

Each deployment can combine:

  • KAPSULE high-visibility swim buoys
  • Compact LoRaWAN GPS trackers
  • A shore-based LoRaWAN gateway
  • A compatible monitoring application or platform

KAPSULE supplies the swim buoys and trackers, while local partners can establish and operate the gateway and monitoring platform according to their environment and operational needs.
